About Woodlynn Ltd

Woodlynn was started in 1963 when Lyn Parris, a craftsman hand turner, began making bed legs on a lathe set up under his house. This quickly grew and within 18 months he moved to commercial premises in New Lynn and hired his first staff. The company continued to develop as an industrial turnery supplying turned components to other manufacturers, particularly in the furniture industry. In 1966 Lyn purchased land in Glen Eden and built new premises to accommodate the expanding business. Woodlynn is still located at this same address but the buildings have changed significantly from the original.

In 1991 Bob Williamson took over as Managing Director. Bob utilised his overseas experience to establish and develop a strong export market supplying container lots of components, such as bed posts and table legs, into a number of large Australian furniture manufacturers. This saw a successful growth period for Woodlynn until the strengthening NZ dollar and increasing competition from Asia resulted in a significant consolidation of the furniture industry on both sides of the Tasman.

In 2003 Woodlynn was bought by the Evans family, the current owners, with Barry Evans taking over as Managing Director. This has seen a diversification of products offered within the New Zealand market. Woodlynn now stock a large range of Handrail and Balustrade components for the building industry in addition to its extensive range of furniture legs. In 2006 Woodlynn took over the frame-making activities of Fleetwood Furniture. This involved supplying wooden frames for other manufacturers, mainly in the furniture and building industries.

In 2012 Woodlynn purchased the wood turning and wood working operations of Woodcroft Industries, which had started off as Mt Eden Turnery in 1923 (90 years earlier). At its peak Woodcroft employed over 80 staff and was a significant furniture and component supplier, with its own ranges of products including curtain rods, bed legs, cabinet knobs,  pin buttons and plug buttons. The Woodcroft operation was consolidated onto the Glen Eden site by expanding into an adjacent building.

Today Woodlynn uses its well equipped manufacturing facility and dedicated staff to provide its customers a wide variety of product solutions in wood.

As procurement manager for Queensberry I have dealt with Barry and the team at Woodlynn for the past 2 years or so, and have found the service excellent.  Their attention to detail is great, and the flexibility of service offered has been of great assistance to our business model.

We have random demand which makes it difficult to forecast, and Barry has been extremely helpful in ensuring any urgent orders for us are fulfilled to short leadtimes, and with a cheerful manner.

Thanks again Barry for all of your help - it has been appreciated and helped make my job easier.

Woodlynn has been supplying furniture components for the television  production that I am working on for the past 2 series.  When I joined  the production this season Woodlynn was highly recommended to me  by my predecessors on the job and now I know why.  Barry is a delight to deal with.

Quoting on jobs is always prompt, the workmanship of  the components is excellent and the components are always ready to  collect on the agreed date.  We are often producing "one off" items  of furniture and Barry is a great communicator.  He will call me if  there is a question about a drawing detail or let me know if there is  a probem with a dimension and then suggest a solution.  In my job, I  deal with many supplying companies and when I find a reliable company  like Woodlynn, it really helps to make my job run more smoothly.

It has been a pleasure to work with Barry at Woodlynn, he has a friendly get it done approach. The balustrades manufactured & supplied by Woodlynn were an accurate representation of original colonial architecture, the turned design on the balustrades are simple, elegant and aesthetically pleasing.

I would highly recommend the service provided by Barry.

I have no hesitation in recommending Insu, the installer from Auckland Handrail Ltd, for any balustrade work that is required.

I have found him to be very obliging and reliable for quoting, arriving for the job on the stipulated date and for any follow up queries. His workmanship is excellent, very tidy and he is a clean worker.
