The main purpose of a handrail or balustrade is to make your stairs safer to use.  The balustrade also contributes significantly to the internal aesthetics of a house or building as well as enhancing the value of that building.  With this in mind we have developed over time a wide variety of balustrade styles to suit any stairway or landing utilising the warmth and beauty of natural timber.

From the elegance of the traditional Colonial style (Turned) to the simplicity of a contemporary square look, or the eye-catching combination of Rimu with wrought iron balusters, we have a suitable style to enhance your stairs.  Below are some examples of what can be achieved.

SQUARE TIMBER BALUSTRADE
  Square turned newel posts
     
A simple balustrade is achieved by using square newel posts with square tops and chamfered balusters   This plain but elegant style of balustrade uses extra large square newel posts with square turned tops and square balusters
 
TURNED TIMBER BALUSTRADE
 
     
This traditional Colonial style balustrade has classical turned balusters and newel posts with ball tops   This turned Colonial style balustrade uses turned balusters and newel posts with ball tops.
 
FLUTED AND CHAMFERED TIMBER BALUSTRADE
 
     
A timeless style that provides fine classical details that highlight the vertical lines using fluted newel posts with pyramid tops and fluted balusters.   This balustrade combines simple Chamfered newel posts (also known as Bevelled) with traditional ball tops and chamfered balusters
 

RIMU AND WROUGHT IRON BALUSTRADE

 
     
This eye catching style combines the warmth of chamfered Rimu newel posts and  pyramid tops with the strength and subtlety of wrought iron balusters.   This unique balustrade style combines chamfered Rimu newel posts with the comfort of traditional ball tops and wrought iron balusters.
 
RIMU AND GLASS BALUSTRADE
 
     
A contemporary combination of warm timber posts and rails (chamfered Rimu with pyramid top) with a modern glass filled balustrade.   An example of contrasting chamfered Rimu posts and pyramid tops (Dark stained) with a glass filled balustrade.
 
.EXTERIOR BALUSTRADE
 
     
This traditional style balustrade uses turned balusters to replicate the Colonial look of historical New Zealand buildings.   A more timeless exterior balustrade look of fluted newel posts and pyramid tops with fluted balusters.
